Veterans Park Monument Wins American Institute of Commemorative Art Award

Florence’s Veterans Park Memorial was recognized as this year’s national award winner in the Public Memorial and Features Design category at the annual conference of the American Institute of Commemorative Art, held recently in San Diego.  The Institute is comprised of fifty leading designers and builders of private and public memorials from the United States and Canada. Membership in the Institute is by invitation only. Brown Memorials of Florence is one of those select members. Claudia Brown Grossman was in attendance when the announcement was made. The Veterans Park memorial, executed according to the design by Alex Palkovich, consists of three towering granite monoliths topped by a life-size bronze sculpture of a bald eagle, also created by Mr. Palkovich.  The monoliths’ placement creates a central meditation chamber where one can see the eagle landing. The open chamber gives visitors the ability to be part of the sculpture and see it from all directions. Each side of the granite monoliths features a bronze medallion representing a branch of the service. Browns Memorial supplied the granite for the memorial and handled the construction of this award-winning project. (See pictures of the monument at the bottom of this page.)
